Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta 2007
October 11 - 14
This was our second adventure to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Last year we attended and stayed in an RV park about 13 miles away. This meant getting up early in the morning, driving to the launch site, fighting the traffic into the parking lots and then fighting our way out at the end.
This year we stayed at the launch site. In our motor homes, high above the launch site we had a birds eye view of all of the activities. Get up in the morning, start the coffee, open the front curtains and you had a spectacular view of everything that went on. Of course I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings down on the launch field taking pictures of the balloons as they prepared to launch. A great site to behold. Thousands of people and hundreds of balloons.
This is a hard event to describe. Balloons filling the skies, all color of the rainbow. Different shapes and sizes and just the atmosphere of being down in the middle of it all.
In the evening, as we were eating dinner, we could watch the "glowdeo" which was followed every night with fireworks. the "glowdeo" is when the balloons will inflate, and the colors of the balloon shine into the night when the burners are turned on. Amazing colors, sights and sounds.
This trip we made it to the Unser Museum. The Unser family grew up in the Albuquerque area and the museum chronicles the families triumphs in auto racing. A beautiful museum that was made more impressive when we got to met Al Unser Senior. Shook his hand, took pictures with him, and listened to him talk about the museum. A great treat.
Well, ya'll want to see pictures, so this link will take you there. Some of the photographs I can't take credit for, and I have noted those.
Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.
